What's the extent of pop rock's gayness?

Both me and my dad often listen to bands like napalm death, and dead weather etc. But this one time I was listening to linkin park, and ky dad gave me the dirtiest 'urgh, pop rock' face ever. But my theory is its ok to listen to pop rock as long as you then don't go around thinking its hardcore. Any thoughts, any comments??
